At Keele University, we’re proud to be consistently ranked in the Top 3 UK universities for student satisfaction, which is testimony to the safe, supportive and welcoming campus we hope you’ll soon call home.A combined degree in English Literature and Psychology offers the opportunity to develop skills in both disciplines. In English Literature, you’ll explore the aesthetic expression of different forms of thought, while in Psychology you’ll learn about and research why humans feel, think and act in the ways that they do.Literature is an aesthetic expression of personal and social values. In English Literature, you will discover ways in which knowledge of the paradigms and methodologies of psychoanalysis can illuminate our reading of literary texts from the Renaissance period to the present day. Texts are analysed with respect to their originating culture, periods and genres as well as their continuing influence. You might consider the historical, socio-political, economic, gender and geographical contexts of fiction, poetry, drama and film. In Psychology, the latest psychology research, including studies published by our own friendly staff, tell us about human behaviour from social, developmental, biological and cognitive perspectives. We will show you how to design and conduct your own psychological studies in our well-equipped labs using a range of techniques including interviews, surveys and experiments. You’ll graduate with a wide range of skills including oral and written communication, presentation, and skills specific to critical inquiry. You will be able to communicate complex ideas effectively to different kinds of audience, producing persuasive arguments informed by careful research. Some careers may require further study or training, but you might work as a teacher, journalist, editor, librarian, advertising copywriter, or arts administrator. Many of our graduates choose to pursue further academic study. This course is accredited by the British Psychological Society, a necessary first step for many professional careers in psychology including becoming a Chartered Psychologist. Psychological careers include clinical, counselling, educational, forensic, occupational or sports psychology.
