Our English language and literature degree combines the study of English language, communication and literature.The language element of our degree in English language and literature will introduce you to the properties of English, from the structure of words and sentences to the use of language in society. The literary aspect explores challenging texts and new ways of reading, tackling everything from drama and visual narratives to fiction and poetry. You can also study a foreign language, undertake a work placement, or develop the skills needed to follow a career in journalism.Popular career options for our English language and literature graduates include teaching, interpretation services, journalism, marketing and publishing.
Foundations of Linguistics initiates students in the scientific reflection on the properties of human language equipping them with the necessary tools to face second and final year modules on Language analysis, language acquisition and language learning. Likewise, it prepares students from other areas to make practical use of linguistic knowledge in fields where language is the expressive tool such as literature, marketing, and media.

The LLT sandwich placement aims to help students synthesise knowledge and skills acquired during the first two years of the degree programme and apply them appropriately in a working environment under the supervision of an employer. It provides students with the opportunity to manage and enhance the development of their own personal skills, acquire and develop a range of skills such as communication skills, professional awareness, technological skills, employability skills, and have the opportunity to apply them in a work environment. It also aims to provide students with an opportunity to work supervised and unsupervised with an appreciation of work ethics.
