taught at our Hope Park campus. The Foundation Year aims to develop your skills so that after a year, you will be equipped with the necessary skills needed for studying the full BA Hons degree programme.

English Language

Language has a profound influence on the way we see, construct and interpret the world around us. It shapes our identities and culture and can be used to manipulate the way we think. The English Language degree examines a wide range of varieties of English in their social, cultural andhistorical contexts. It teaches you how to closely analyse texts ranging from everyday discourse to fictional narratives to the language of the media.Studying English Language provides you with a sound knowledge of how language is structured, how it developed and spread globally, and how it functions both in society and in our minds, but it also equips you with a variety of practical critical and analytical skills. We pride ourselves on offering a challenging and stimulating degree with a wide range of innovative teaching and assessment methods, with an emphasis on how language is used for professional purposes and the practical skills valuable in selected careers.

Global Philosophy & Worldviews

Studying Global Philosophies & Worldviews will open your mind to an evolving world of thought: contemporary philosophy is developing an increasingly global approach, decolonising the western-centric focus that has dominated the field. This course is located within the vibrant and progressive emerging field that explores global thinking and worldviews, which so often include religious perspectives. You will explore how people across the world make and remake their worldviews, and you will engage with thinkers and traditions from diverse backgrounds – Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Islamic, Jewish, and more. This distinctive course seeks philosophical, theological, religious, and mystical wisdom that challenges the (Western) idea that secular reason and science are the only ways to truth.

It’s a very safe university and has great support for students. Perhaps a regular bus running from uni to smithdown would be good but other than that it’s been amazing..Read more
