Expand your knowledge and understanding of cultural, historical and regional evolutions in literature with a flexible degree from the UK's leading creative university.

Assessment

All courses are assessed by an unseen written exam (except ‘Introduction to Creative Writing’, which is assessed by coursework). You also submit a formative piece of work for all Level 4 English courses.

Exams are held in May each year. You can sit these when you are ready at one of our 400 examination centres. A fee is payable to your local centre for hosting the exams.

For access to the BA English and DipHE English, you will usually meet the following criteria: Age 17+ by 30 November in the year of registration; Satisfy our General Entrance Requirements. A Level English (pass) or equivalent. Equivalent to GCSE/GCE O level (or AS) is equivalent to GCE A/AS level.Satisfies the specific requirements for a named course or the specific and the General Entrance Requirements for a named course. Satisfies General Entrance Requirements as a whole. You may still require course-specific requirements (e.g. Mathematics) plus English language proficiency. For applicants whose first language is not English, we accept a variety of English language tests (International English Language Testing System: 6 overall, with 5.5 in each sub-test) and they are listed on our International Entry Requirements page.
