This Foundation Degree with Foundation Year is designed for those who want to study for the foundation degree but don’t have the necessary formal qualifications to start just yet. The foundation year modules include: Core Study Skills for Engineers, Creative Problem Solving, Technical Communication Skills, Mathematical Methods, Electronic Engineering for Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering for Advanced Manufacturing.The course will go on to focus on developing knowledge and understanding of engineering to create a foundation for further study in the area. The fundamentals of the programme will include the different engineering pathways and you will be introduced to programming languages and CAD. Mathematics will play a fundamental part in the teaching and development throughout the course.In FdA Year Two, undergraduates will further develop knowledge and understanding of engineering. However, the key component of the year will be the work placement which will enhance the concepts taught on the Foundation Degree. You will be expected to develop independence and enhance your research skills. These latter skills will be key to you being able to progress to a full honours degree.Teaching and learning on the course will be delivered through a range of lectures, practical workshops, research seminars, group work and project work.Guest speakers from different areas of engineering will conduct workshops and Q&A sessions. Undergraduates will be involved in the performance of lab experiments and research activities.
