Bangor University

Bangor is very small for a city, so it isn't the most exciting place. There's also nothing notably unpleasent about it. North Wales in general is very scenic, but is difficult to travel without a car due to there being huge, empty spaces between populated areas. The Engineering School itself is adequate, and contains specialist equipment such as a clean room, 3D printers and robot arms. The uni prides itself on its variety of societies, but funding for these is currently being reduced, so it's unclear if that will always be the case.

Bangor University is known for having good programs, especially in engineering, environmental science, and oceanography. It’s in a beautiful place between mountains and a strait, which makes studying there special. The people are supportive, and there’s a focus on research, making learning interesting. Bangor University’s School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering has notable research strengths in areas such as electronic systems, communications, and renewable energy technologies. Engineering programs at Bangor often foster strong links with industry. This can include guest lectures, industry placements, and collaborative projects, providing students with practical insights and networking opportunities. Teachers at Bangor University are really good at teaching. They know a lot about their subjects and help students learn in a friendly way. The university values students a lot, and the teachers are there to support you. Accommodation in villages like St Mary's and Ffriddoedd Village is not only affordable but also offers a beautiful living environment. Each village has its unique charm, providing students with options that balance cost and aesthetics. Bangor University's continuous efforts to address student needs and maintain high educational standards contribute to making it a distinctive and appealing institution for those seeking a well-rounded academic experience. Students have the option to explore a wide range of extracurricular activities, from outdoor adventures to cultural events. The proximity to Snowdonia National Park and the Isle of Anglesey offers ample opportunities for recreation and exploration. To make it even better, they could improve facilities on campus, connect more with industries for hands-on experience, and provide more resources for some departments. Like any school, it’s important to keep adapting to what students need and keep up high standards for education..

I love the staff and how they interact with all the students. No matter who or where you are from, they will act nicely with you and will guide you properly. My best experience was in summer because at that time we were only international students in the university halls and the university arranged trips for us where we met fellow students and made them friends. I didn't have any worse experience.

I love studying in Bangor it has an open door policy and the education feels really personal, the facilities for sports are great everything I want as a weightlifter and hockey player I also love that even as a small uni it has all the clubs and societies as a bigger uni and they are all free!!

The department is very supportive and any issues we raise are heard. Negative The past papers/marking schemes aren’t readily available and can be difficult to access.
