In a world filled with smart devices to a global need to create green energy, our course provides a detailed insight into the computing systems and software needed to advance all technology.A lot of the things you learn will be done in labs either working individually and through group projects. You'll study subjects such as analogue and digital electronics, circuits and systems, computing, communications and the application of electrical energy.You will spend year four in industry. You can apply for placements available to students on your course or can agree your own placement with an appropriate company. During your industrial year, you remain fully registered with the University, with regular meetings with your tutor.When you graduate from this course, your combined knowledge of hardware and software engineering means you will enjoy a rewarding career in whatever industry you choose.All our electrical and electronic courses have the same content in year one and two so by year three, you can choose the topics that interest you.Our five-year MEng course is the preferred route to achieving Chartered Engineer status. It will give you a deeper understanding of the role of electrical engineering compared to our BEng course.

Extended Diploma in an Engineering subject: As part of the application process BTEC applicants without A level Maths who are predicted DDM or above will receive an invitation to have a meeting with an academic member of staff. This is informal with our primary objective being to ensure that our students are fully prepared for year one and will be successful on the course. Please note that applicants who do not attend the meeting will not receive an offer. Our typical offer is as follows: QCF Extended Diploma - DDD including Distinction in Maths for Technicians and Distinction in Further Maths for Technicians. RQF National Extended Diploma - DDD including Distinction in Engineering Principles, Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems and Further Engineering Maths. We also consider a mix of BTEC and A level qualifications. For example: BTEC Diploma/National Diploma in Engineering plus A Level Mathematics. BTEC Subsidiary Diploma/National Extended Certificate in Engineering plus two A Levels including Mathematics.
