Education Studies - BA

University of Sunderland

This is my third time studying at Sunderland university and I would not have chosen anywhere else for my masters. My experiences have been so positive and enjoyable and I've felt supported throughout. From my initial teaching degree (BA primary education with QTS) to my NASENCO award to now studying my masters in special educational needs, disabilities and inclusion.

There’s nothing specific but I just don’t 100% adore it where there wouldn’t be stuff it could improve on generally but that would be the same for any uni really. One thing that baffles me about the campus though is that we had a new building built specifically for Primary Education students and I’ve only had maybe 1 or 2 lectures there? Also it’s a full time course but there’s no need for it to be…I feel like it’s just like that to get as much money from each student as possible.. And as far as looks go, we are based on the riverside near the sea and I can’t for the life of me work out why they’ve put wooden cladding on most of the buildings because it’s relatively new but looks absolutely minging because it’s always damp haha. As I said, there’s probably some more stuff that could be improved but those few bits stand out to me. As far as the course goes that’s far too broad for me to have any strong opinion about a specific area. Perhaps the only thing I would say is that some lectures are a bit repetitive and I would prefer if it was less theory more practical? I’m not sure

The university as a whole is welcoming and helpful. However, a few things to make it better would be renovating toilets on St Peter’s Campus and also having more options for lunch.

Something that could be improved- Price of parking, price of food in cafe - due to the price of parking sometimes we cannot afford to have lunch because we know we already have spent too much on parking. Sometimes the toilets do not have all of them working. Makes it hard for the whole university to share 3 toilets. Positives - Lecturers are all lovely and kind people, that you know you can go over to and ask for help or advice. Good location because of the shops nearby.

This is an amazing university and the only down side is it being so far from where I live. I travel to the university for my course two times a week by train due to living so far away. Even though it’s long journeys, I still chose this university over ones closer to me because when coming here my voice feels heard by lecturers and nothing feels like a stupid question. In my honest opinion I don’t think there is anything that could be improved, I love it here.
