This programme is of particular interest to students who may wish to work within a number of potential educational settings and environments and who wish to keep their employability options open. Education Studies offers an academic study of education based on the four pillars of the discipline which are philosophy, psychology, sociology and history. Additional areas of focus are inclusivity, additional learning needs as well as the issues relating to people and communities on a local, national and global level. An emphasis on contemporary educational issues across a range of contexts and the development of students as effective educational researchers and practitioners is central to the ethos of this course. This programme supports progression towards a variety of careers such as teaching, research, educational administration and management, local government, as well as a range of opportunities within the public and private sector.Whilst on this course our students have opportunities to develop their team work skills, to consider their own learning and personal development, to take part in active citizenship and problem solving. During Year 2 and Year 3, there are placement opportunities in order to enable students to focus on current issues in relevant settings and to be able to develop their understanding of the links between theory , policy and practice. Assessments include project proposals, case studies, group presentations and briefing papers to enable students to apply their understanding of theory and policy using practical approaches that are relevant for future employability.Our graduates leave and progress towards a wide variety of careers such as educational research, educational administration and management, local government, as well as a range of other possibilities within the public and private sector. There are also opportunities for further study including teacher training and postgraduate programmes within a divere range of related sectors.
