The Kings Education Management MA is intended for education professionals who aspire to positions of management and leadership in education, and for scholars with an interest in this field. Focused on the challenges faced by educational institutions around the world today, the programme is designed to develop the expertise and critical decision-making capabilities required of those tasked with leading modern educational organisations. The programme has relevance across a range of education sectors and provider types, including state, independent and non-profit providers. Participants engage critically with current debates and the latest research to develop their professional understanding of complex real-world problems in the field of education management and leadership.
This course draws on various disciplines, such as sociology, political science, philosophy, economics, history and contemporary policy making to provide a critical perspective on contemporary education management and leadership. The course places education management and leadership in schools, colleges and universities within the current political, social and educational context. The course includes practical elements through which to explore and deepen understanding about the ideas explored in class. You will benefit from this course no matter the level at which you teach, lecture or organise educational provision. It will enable you to reflect on your practice and to inform such reflections by extending your knowledge.
Lower undergraduate grades may be considered in certain circumstances, for example if the applicant has a PGCE with master's level credits. It is recommended that applicants have some relevant professional experience, either in teaching or in other educational practice such as policy. However, applications from candidates who do not have any experience but who do have relevant academic qualifications will be considered. In order to meet the academic entry requirements for this programme you should have a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree with a final mark of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme. If you are still studying you should be achieving an average of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme.
