Created in collaboration with employers, they combine academic study with developing the skills and attributes needed in the workplace. It makes them ideal preparation for a specific profession or industry or for making progress in your existing career. You can always convert to a full honours degree by taking a Level 6 programme on completion.If you already work in education or wish to start this course is right for you.The revised foundation degree in Education and Learning supports you to develop expert subject knowledge which can be applied in your working environment. With a clear emphasis on professional relevance, the course combines in-depth academic study with meaningful practical application of knowledge, across all age ranges. You will collaborate with others, follow independent lines of enquiry, and draw on professionals’ and lecturers’ experience to develop your knowledge and skills.The first year, provides underpinning knowledge in a range of specific areas, including reflective practice, behaviour, SEND, Language, oracy and the importance of effective communication and partnership working. You will look academically at theories of learning and development, consider international perspectives, and draw on current debates within education.The second year encourages a more detailed understanding of key topics such as ethnicity and diversity, effective mathematic interventions and use of technology in the classroom. You will also be supported to become autonomous and reflective practitioners through independent research, which allows you to develop specialist knowledge in a specific area of interest.During the course, you will gain a strong core of knowledge in psychology, sociology, and the holistic development across the lifespan. It is a highly engaging course taught through lectures, collaborative and independent study, and events with the university, and offers a uniquely supportive and challenging learning environment.To complete the course successfully, students studying this foundation degree will be required to be in paid or voluntary work for at least two and a half days per week or equivalent (16 hours).
