On our Education and English degree, you will engage with essential questions in education - such as What should students learn, and why? How can teaching and assessment be most effective? and What role do schools play in shaping individuals' futures? These questions will guide your studies through the lenses of sociology, history, psychology, and philosophy.
In parallel, you will delve into the world of English literature, critically examining texts from a wide range of time periods, cultures, and genres, from Renaissance drama to modern children's fiction, to understand how literature reflects and shapes social values and ideas. By studying these two fields side by side, you will discover how the disciplines complement and enhance one another, deepening your understanding of the educational contexts for teaching literature and the value of literature for evaluating learning strategies and theories.
The degree also includes practical, hands-on opportunities to connect your academic studies with real-world experiences. You will go on field trips and have a range of experiential learning, including spending time in classrooms with children and working with the local community.
You will also be able to develop your skills and enhance your employability further through work placement modules and the option of a work placement year. These placements will enhance your professional development, helping you to build a strong portfolio of experience and establish valuable professional connections and help to prepare you for your future career.
