The modern business world increasingly requires an ability to understand the driving principles of economics and financial operations. This degree provides you with the opportunity to develop your knowledge, understanding, technical skills and confidence to operate successfully in an international and globalised work environment. The course explores large-scale general economic drivers and their influences on wealth creation at national and international levels (macroeconomics) and how economic units make decisions and distribute goods and services (microeconomics). No previous study of economics is required or assumed. You will develop a deep understanding of economic principles and the real world practical applications of economic theory and methodology. You will also study finance and management accounting as well as have the opportunity to follow the Economics and Finance pathway (see page 97). You develop quantitative and data analysis proficiency to support your study of economics and applied problem solving. Your mathematical skills will also be developed throughout the course, with a focus on their relevance to applied problems. The employability-related skills of numeracy, communication skills, computer skills, critical thinking, self-study and research, collaborative team-work, analysis and problem-solving will be developed. These skills are highly sought-after in today’s challenging economic environment, as organisations strive to solve increasingly complex business problems.
