You’ll study your Economics and Finance degree at our world-renowned Leeds University Business School, home to the Applied Institute for Research in Economics. Here you’ll have access to the latest knowledge from our academic research centres. This degree allows you to explore the intersection between economics and the world of finance. Through compulsory modules, you'll explore the core concepts, practices and techniques in economics as well as knowledge of the financial foundations of firms, financial markets and institutions. You will gain analytical, quantitative, computing, presentation and other transferable skills, preparing you for a variety of exciting careers in the private and public sector. Within a challenging and supportive environment, you'll develop an in-depth understanding of the nature and methods of economic and financial analysis, allowing you to gain insight into the factors that influence income generation, growth and distribution, individual and firm behaviour, corporate finance and financial markets together with policy options and dilemmas. A range of optional economics and finance modules will provide you with the opportunity to explore specialist areas such as economic development, behavioural economics, monetary policy, international banking and finance, and auditing. Regular opportunities to network with guest speakers from industry and politics at our ‘Meet with the Economists’ series, featuring debates, discussions and presentations. This is a great way to develop your professional communication skills and gain insights for your future career. You’ll have access to our two state-of-the-art trading rooms, helping you develop practical skills for your career. You'll have the chance to gain certification for taking part in Bloomberg Core Concepts training in your first year, and to participate in a live trading simulation in your final year. Develop important research and analytical skills and apply these in your final year to a year-long project on a topic of your choice. For example, you may decide to investigate a particular area of economic development or conduct your own research into the impacts of social and environmental factors on the economy.
