Academic staff members typically publish in leading economics and finance journals, with publications over the REF 2021 period in American Economic Review, Econometrica, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Finance, and many others.
Members of staff also have active collaborations with various governmental and non-governmental agencies, including the UK Treasury, Bank of England, World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, OECD, and ILO.
Career paths
Most students graduating from programme continue onto our PhD programme (subject to fulfilling requirements).
For those who do not pursue further studies, there's a wide range of potential economics careers, especially as research economists in public sector, international institutions, consulting, financial industry, think tanks or other research centres.
Degree requirements – You need a First Class Honours or above at undergraduate level in Economics, Finance or a related subject. Subjects such as Mathematics, Physics and Engineering may also be considered. Other routes - We will also consider applications from MSc graduates in Economics and related disciplines, although it is not a requirement that applicants have completed an MSc. Applicants already enrolled on a comparable advanced postgraduate degree at other institutions will be able to request to be considered through the Queen Mary Accreditation of Prior Learning Policy (following the standard University procedure) to enter part-way through the MRes programme.
