They are experts in diverse interdisciplinary approaches to the study of drama, theatre and performance.Areas of studyWe welcome applicants with practice-as-research projects as well as historical, critical and theoretical approaches to the following areas of study:contemporary performance practice and experimental theatrenon-human performancetheatre and ethicsLive Art, visual art and body-based practicesqueer and feminist performancedance and the choreographicperformance and popular culturescontemporary theatre directinginterdisciplinary intersections (for example between performance and music) early modern drama in contemporary performancepedagogies of actor training.You can choose to study for a PhD or an MPhil. PhD and MPhil degrees differ in duration and in the extent of your research work.For a PhD, your research work makes a substantial original contribution to knowledge or understanding in your chosen field.For an MPhil, your work is an independent piece of research but in less depth than for a PhD. You’ll graduate with the degree title Master of Philosophy. You might be able to change to a PhD while you study for an MPhil.

Degree requirements: Youre normally expected to have a Merit (an average of 60% overall) in a masters degree. Subject-specific requirements: Your Masters-level qualification should be in a drama-related subject or a subject relevant to your chosen area of research. You should also show evidence of substantial research and/or evidence of professional performance-related experience. Your undergraduate degree-level qualification should be in drama, performance, or theatre studies. You may also be considered for the degree if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing.
