Studying drama and film offers the opportunity to explore how stories are told on stage and screen, and their impact in the world. Experience the theory and the practice behind filmmaking and theatre - explore film, television and performance. You'll study the critical contexts for these complementary creative industries, making use of placements, workshops and opportunities to exhibit your work. With our expert lecturers, you'll dive into a selection of genres across theatre and filmmaking - from immersive and participatory performance to screenwriting, documentaries and children's TV and film. You'll also get the chance to hone your film and theatre making skills in our state-of-the-art theatre, film studio and editing suites. Make use of our wide-ranging work-based placements and employability focused modules and graduate with a detailed awareness of and sought-after experience with the creative industries. Participate in RSC led workshops – make use of our collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company and take part in fun and interactive study trips. Learn from filmmaking and theatre industry experts – including artistic directors, freelance performers and live artists. Live and study in a creative city – from independent cinemas to theatres to film festivals, there’s always lots of culture to soak up in Birmingham. You’ll be assessed in different ways to suit each module. At the start of a module, you’ll be told how and when you’ll be assessed. Methods will vary but may include coursework (e.g., essays), group or individual presentations and projects, exams, reports or computer-based assignments.
