This course provides the essential theoretical, clinical and research training for those wishing to work as a Counselling Psychologist. Take a humanistic approach to reducing psychological distress and promoting the wellbeing of children, adolescents, adults, couples, families and other groups. As a graduate of this course you will be eligible to apply for registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). This course is approved by the HCPC and accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS).
Counselling psychology focuses on the application of psychological and psychotherapeutic theory and research to clinical practice. Counselling psychologists work across a diversity of health and social care providers including:
On this course you will gain professional training in relevant theory, research and therapeutic skills. You will also focus on your personal development. Our modules will help you to develop the skills needed to work in leadership and supervisor roles in diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.
Minimum entry requirements: 2:1 degree from a BPS accredited undergraduate Psychology course, or a 2:2 with a masters in a related discipline. Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills and Theory, or evidence of relevant work experience and training. Additional requirements: For entry onto this course, you will also need: Satisfactory DBS enhanced disclosure Confirmation of Graduate Basis for Chartered Memberships (GBC) from the British Psychological Society (BPS) A commitment to undertake and fund a minimum of 40 hours of personal therapy, and to engage in continuous clinical supervision throughout the course.
