In our interconnected world, digital transformation is reshaping society, culture, and daily life. On the Digital Media and Sociology BA, youll explore the complex relationship between technology, media, and society while developing the skills to tackle modern social challenges. With real-world projects, work placements, international study opportunities, and industry connections, this programme equips you with the expertise to thrive in careers across digital media, policy, research, and the community sector.

Shape the future in a digital world. Our Digital Media and Sociology degree combines two closely connected disciplines, giving you insights into how media and technology shape society. You'll explore sociological theories of power, identity, and inequality while developing practical skills in digital media, preparing you for careers in marketing, broadcasting, business, the public sector, charities, and more.

Explore social division and inequalities across cultures and critically analyse the role of digital media in contemporary politics, a key consideration for future digital content producers. Go behind the scenes of the media industry from big corporations to content creators to understand how media is produced, funded, regulated, and distributed, and use your sociological imagination to make sense of todays world by rethinking classical theories for the digital age. Develop expertise in key concepts and tools that reveal how people engage with media and apply your sociological knowledge to navigate a world shaped by data, algorithms, disinformation, and the rise of conspiracy theories.

With a range of optional modules, you can tailor your studies to your interests. Topics covered in this programme include social order and deviance, the mediation of identity, race, class, and belief, podcast and radio production, and the American South – a summer school in the US.

Through real-world projects, work placements, and study abroad opportunities, youll develop critical thinking, research, and transferable skills. Graduating workplace-ready, you will have the creative, analytical, and communication abilities to thrive in careers across diverse sectors.

A degree in Digital Media and Sociology can open doors to different career possibilities, equipping you with the type of versatile skills employers are looking including problem-solving, data analysis and information handling. You will have gained insights into the various elements of the world we live, with experience in theoretical and practical aspects of two exciting and evolving subjects. Your understanding and knowledge of society will help you adapt to various environments and demonstrate your skills in the workplace.

You may wish to explore a career in:

Marketing

Television

At Keele, there are also a range of internships available to students that will enable you to gain real work experience with employers. This may involve full time or part time positions and roles that will allow you to gain a head start in your career.

Having the opportunity to take an internship will develop your practical skills in industries you may wish to pursue after graduation and the chance to engage with paid work during your time at university and beyond.
