ThisDigitalEconomyMScisdesignedtoteachyoua'solidknowledgeandunderstandingofhowdigitalartefactsareeconomicallyunique,howtheyleadtoinnovation,transformbusinessesandeconomies,andhowtheyimpactonbroadercontemporary'society.Youlllearnaboutthemaincriticalandtheoreticalapproachestotheanalysisofdigitaleconomiesfromavarietyofdisciplinaryperspectivesatmacroandmicrolevels,anddiscoverhowtoapplythistothemanagementofdigitalartefactsandtoyourcareer.Thebeginningofthisdigitaleconomymasterstacklesthe'subjectfromamicroperspective.Therequiredmodulewillfocusontheimpactofdigitaltechnologies,likeopen-source'software,todiscusstheirimplicationsonpeople,communities,companies,andecosystems.Youwillconsidertheoriesthataddresscommons-basedpeerproduction,ordersofworth,transactioncosttheory,andbeyond.Atthe'sametime,youlllearnhowtoestablishandapplydigitalinitiatives,criticallyanalyseexistinginnovation'strategies,and'scrutinisetheethicsofdigitalcreation.Topicscoveredincludethe'significanceofdigitaldivides,the'socialroleofdigitalpayments'systems,theexperienceofmoderngigwork,criticalaccountsofentrepreneurship,andtheconstructionoflegitimacyfornoveltechnologies.The'secondrequiredmodulewill'shiftyourperspectivetothemacroandteachahistorical,criticaland'systemicreflectiononthedigitaleconomy.Youllconsiderthechallengesofrisingtechcompaniesandcontemplatetheirpoliticaleconomywhendebatingmajortopics.Youwillbeabletodiscusstopics'suchasaddictionandattention,theregulatoryimpactsoftechnologieslikegenerativeAI,'surveillancecapitalism,anddatacolonialismwhileexploringtheroleofpowerinthedigitaleconomyandhownewinequalitiesofpowerareemerging.Bytheend,youllbepreparedtoexplainthesechangesandoutline'systematicconnectionsacrossthedigitaleconomyasawhole.Thankstoabroadlistofinterdisciplinaryoptionalmodules,youcancuratetherestofyourDigitalEconomyMSclearningto'specialiseintheareasthatinterestyoumost.Forexample,youcouldchoosetolearnmoreaboutartificialintelligenceanditsimpacton'society.Ortakeamoduleondigitalinnovationandthevarious'sources,uses,andimpactsoftheseinnovations.
