Why study this course

As a Dentist, youll lead a dental team, diagnose and treat dental diseases, repair dental and related facial injuries, and give patients advice and guidance on looking after their oral health.

Youll safely practice your clinical skills in our dental simulation suite, on mannequins that are fondly known as ‘phantom heads. This hands-on experience will prepare you for the wide range of real clinical scenarios that youll get stuck into later in the course, thanks to our strong links with the NHS.

Not only will you study in the University Dental Hospital which we're lucky enough to call our home, but youll also embark on clinical placements in Wales, where youll be surrounded by an experienced team of clinicians, supporting you to become the best dental professional you can be.

When you graduate, you can register with the General Dental Council and work across the dental sector including general dental care, community dental care, dental public health, hospital dental care and the armed forces.

This course is also the perfect launchpad for a career as a specialist in a particular area of dentistry, or as a researcher, exploring some of the biggest challenges facing our society.

Learning and assessment

We use a variety of methods to enrich your learning experience. These include lectures, small-group seminars and tutorials, individual teaching on clinics and e-learning. Project work allows you to work in groups or individually and you will be encouraged to research topics and present work to your peers. Other methods include problem solving exercises and practical classes. Simulation is used to deliver and develop key skills such as managing medical emergencies.
