By combining Welsh and Politics, you will gain a wealth of transferable knowledge and skills, opening doors to a variety of career paths. Studying a joint honors degree can be stimulating and rewarding, as you notice similarities and differences between the two subjects. There are often issues and perspectives that link the topics, be it critical analysis, historical context, or recent research.
The Welsh course is relevant to contemporary Wales and is taught by a School that is recognized for the quality and impact of its research. The course aims to produce graduates with a thorough understanding (both academic and practical) of the Welsh language, its literature and culture, a high level of oral and written language skills, and well-developed employability and creative skills. relevant to modern Wales.
It offers core and optional modules to give you a grounding in language and literature, as well as an opportunity to specialize in areas of personal interest or career interest.
Studying Politics allows you to explore how parliaments and governments operate, and evaluate political ideas such as power, freedom, democracy, conflict, legitimacy and accountability; and the course also includes international links.
The modules vary, giving you the opportunity to explore how politics works in Britain and beyond, as well as exploring how public policy is shaped. Other work trails cover justice, democracy, human rights and international relations, providing a broad understanding of politics that is tailored to your particular needs.
This degree aims to provide you with an excellent understanding of politics and government, while also providing the associated intellectual and communication skills that will be of value whether you work in Government or in the private or voluntary sectors.
Learning and assessment
We offer a supportive learning environment, where you are enabled to gain a range of skills and a wealth of specialist knowledge. Our courses develop intellectual skills, such as critical thinking, in-depth analysis, evaluating evidence, making arguments, applying theory, and using language effectively in writing and discussion. You will gain experience in areas such as team working, independent research and time management.
You will be taught in lectures and seminars. Lectures provide an overview of key subject concepts and frameworks, preparing you for undertaking independent research for the seminars and developing your own ideas. Seminars give you the opportunity to research the ideas outlined in the lectures.

Due to the demand for Welsh speakers, a degree in Welsh provides an invaluable qualification for posts requiring bilingual personnel. Many of our graduates are now pursuing careers in law, politics, media, performing arts, administration and education, or studying at postgraduate level.
In 2015/16, 100% of School of Welsh graduates available for work said they were in employment and / or further study within six months of graduating.

For applicants taking the EPQ qualification, an A in the EPQ can be recognised to lower the entry requirements by a single grade. For example, an AAB offer would be "AAB from 3 A-levels or ABB from 3 A-levels and a grade A in the EPQ". Please note that any subject specific requirements must be met.
31-29 overall or 665-655 in 3 HL subjects. You must also have a Welsh Language qualification equivalent to grade B at A-level.
DM in a BTEC Diploma in Humanities or Social Science subjects and grade B in Welsh First or Second Language.
Acceptance of T Levels for this programme will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Academic School. Consideration will be given to the T Level grade/subject and grades/subjects achieved at GCSE/Level 2.
The Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate will be accepted in place of one A-level at the A-level grades specified, excluding any subject specific requirements.
