Criminology is the study of crime, its control and its consequences. It combines the study of politics, law, psychology and sociology to understand processes of criminalisation, practices of crime control and prevention.Youll study patterns and perceptions of crime, both nationally and globally, the impact of different practices of punishment on offenders, issues of diversity and discrimination in criminal justice, and police power and culture. Criminology is the study of crime, its control and its consequences. It combines the study of politics, law, psychology and sociology to understand processes of criminalisation, practices of crime control and prevention.You'll study patterns and perceptions of crime, both nationally and globally, the impact of different practices of punishment on offenders, issues of diversity and discrimination in criminal justice, and police power and culture. You can also explore youth justice, new technologies of risk management, crime prevention, terrorism and security.You'll be introduced to the theoretical perspectives and debates that inform criminology, and to the institutions, processes and legal foundations of the criminal justice system in England and Wales.
