About this course

Gain insight into the global issues we face in modern society at Roehampton. Sociology is about exploring the building blocks of society. It’s the study of the connections that bind us together: families, organisations and social groups. The study of Criminology explores people’s motivations behind criminal behavior and modern methods for counteracting crime in society. Our social science department is rated one of the best in the UK for the impact of our research.


Skills

On our BA Criminology and Criminal Justice/Sociology course, our priority is ensuring that you graduate with a professional skillset. This incorporatesCriminology and Criminal Justice:
• Ability to access and comprehend academic texts, understanding historical and social influences on criminal justice.
• Proficiency in understanding crime dynamics, evaluating perspectives, and conducting critical analysis.
• Utilising various materials for coherent written work, evaluating sources, and presenting findings effectively.
• Analyse information, propose solutions, and understand the intersectionality of deviance and crime.Sociology:
• Application of theoretical perspectives and research methods, understanding ethical considerations.
• Recognising social diversity, institutions, and historical/cultural influences, fostering a sociological imagination.
• Enhancing communication skills, self-awareness, and understanding of sociology's relevance in everyday life.

This programme opens the door to working in many different areas that shape society. This degree is the ideal launchpad for careers in: Police force, Prison and probation service, The Home Office, The Ministry of Justice, Wider criminal justice system, Opportunities in Charity Sector and Advocacy Organisations.
