OVERVIEW

BSc (Hons) Creative Computing is a course which embraces the changing needs of the creative industries and celebrates the blurring lines between designing and creating in the physical and digital worlds. Whilst many creative people know how to use digital platforms that others have designed, relatively few are able to design and deliver using coding as their medium. As a creative graduate of this course, you will be able to build the technology you need to use for your creative practice.

KEY FEATURES

- Share your first year with BSc (Hons) Creative Technology and Robotics with a focus on the development of a sound base of technical and coding skills that will serve as a springboard for your learning across the rest of the course - Be introduced to AI and machine learning, to support your project development and build skills in coding and software design that are in high demand in the digital and creative industries - Apply coding and creative skills for creative web and app work, thinking about interaction, image, text and rich media - Explore data, from the networks that share it to the ways to find patterns in it - Learn how to use data ethically and explore how data can be used to explain rather than exclude - Develop projects in response to industry briefs and gain an understanding of the potential for, and theory of, computer-based technology in a wide range of digital creative and design sectors - Be taught by experienced academic and technical staff, complemented by industry professionals and practitioners who will support your development of creative and design flair while giving a grounding in the technical skills you need - Develop transferable skills in teamwork, project management, communication and problem-solving through integrated employability and entrepreneurship sessions - Gain opportunities to work with digital creative businesses in the University’s network

DIPLOMA IN CREATIVE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Diploma in Creative Professional Development offers undergraduate students the chance to spend a year between Year 2 and 3 of their course exploring their employability options through a structured programme of input sessions and work-based learning. The aim of the course is to provide you with an opportunity to gain industry insight, develop your employability skills through a series of supported experiences, expand your network and build your confidence in the workplace.

YOUR FUTURE

In your final year you will produce a research report on a relevant area of theory, industry or practice and develop a career plan that will help launch you from graduation into industry. As a graduate of the course, you will be a technology-led creative professional, with creative design and coding skills which enable you to embark on graduate careers in creative software development, immersive experiences, digital media, emerging technology and the related fields of AI and machine learning. Specifically, you may go into roles such as creative developer, design engineer, mobile app developer, web developer, or audio/visual researcher. However, this course will give you the skills and confidence to take roles and opportunities at the forefront of the discipline which are yet to be defined.
