Creative and Critical Writing - MA

University of Sussex

I enjoy studying at University of Sussex, the campus is beautiful and all the teachers are well educated and engaging. I enjoy the limitless options on campus with the range of study areas and food/drink options. The lesson areas are exceptional and the classrooms are always large and full of light which in my opinion non contribute heavily to a good learning environment. I am not apart of any club or societies but there is a lot of options which I have heard of. All lecturers are friendly and provide good learning opportunities, I have never felt excluded in class.

The best part of my experience is that I've always felt informed and there's been opportunities to be a part of the community. The attention to detail and student services is admirable, and the professors are truly on another level. All in all, I do think this is an institution where one can make the most out of the uni experience, and where one can establish those connections that will provide a head start in the professional world (I only wish I'd found it for my undergrad to be in it for longer). I haven't had any negative experience per se. My only note for improvement would be on Fresher's Week. They did activities, but there was nothing to bring people together, so unless you already knew someone or were an extrovert, you would remain alone. The societies and clubs make up for this, however. Everyone is so kind and welcoming, it doesn't feel like one is far from home.

I think the campus is beautiful and the people and the tutors, and love the fact that the uni is all in one place, but so far away from th nearest towns. Very Isolated but do love the transport always available.

Sussex, as a university, is fairly well laid out and having options of shops and public transport from within the University is definitely a bonus. However, finding rooms at times can be incredibly difficult due to lack of signage

The area is lovely, very helpful staff and overall a really lovely community. The only suggestion i’d make would be for there to be more talks on who to go to with questions about the uni and where to go as it can be confusing at the beginning.

Sussex, overall, is a great place to study and has some truly incredible English professors. The MAH school is fantastic and has plenty of events for undergrad and postgrad students alike. At times, it's hard to navigate study as a mature student due to additional responsibilities and constraints on time. The mature students community is fabulous and hosts regular events / support, which really helps you stay connected. However it's sometimes hard to make office hours if a professor has a very fixed/limited window - e.g. one hour on Tuesdays. If you're working or otherwise have commitments on Tuesdays, you simply won't get to meet with them (unless they are flexible - and many of them are). I've learned a lot on this MA and I would recommend Sussex to other students.
