This distinctive MSc develops all the skills and knowledge you need to excel in a rapidly changing field of electrical and electronic engineering.

Course description

Course description

  • There is a growing demand for professionals who can harness latest technology to design and produce novel measurement and control systems.
  • Choose a highly regarded masters course accredited by the Institute of Measurement and Control
  • Take your first steps towards Chartered Engineer status: this programme covers all the educational requirements you need
  • Gain the ideal preparation for senior roles in areas such as automotive, aerospace, petrochemical, scientific or manufacturing applications
  • Enjoy vital industry insights with visits to major companies
  • Undertake practical projects underpinned by latest research
  • Learn from experienced and supportive tutors who will help you to reach your full potential

How you will learn

You will be able to engage in a broad range of activities, such as industrial visits to companies like Rolls-Royce, Mitsubishi and NPL. You will also have the opportunity to attend and contribute to the Derby Electrical and Electronic Research Showcase (DEERS) conference – a chance to see latest developments from across the region, to network with industry specialists and to trial new ideas.

Careers

When you graduate, you will be skilled and knowledgeable in many areas sought after by employers across sectors including the motor vehicle, manufacturing, aerospace and petrochemical industries.

There is currently a shortage of staff who can understand and apply current technology to design and produce novel measurement and control systems. This opens up many opportunities for high-calibre professionals, including rapid progression to senior roles.

Career opportunities include:

  • Engine health monitoring engineer
  • Electronic control systems consultant
  • Electrical operations manager
  • Chief design engineer
  • Electronics hardware design engineer
  • Project coordinator/engineer

The course is made up of three stages – Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and MSc.
