If you are interested in Computer Science but do not have the sufficient relevant background, then our computer science degree with a foundation year will be the opportunity for you to immerse yourself in both the fundamentals of computer science and the very latest technological innovations. The first year of this course will be a gentle introduction to the subject. After the first year, the scheme follows the same core subjects as the G400 BSc Computer Science degree scheme. Employability is at the heart of this degree and it is accredited by the


BCS (The Chartered Institute for IT) on behalf of the Engineering Council,

which gives our students a head start when they enter the competitive job market. You will have access to dedication Linux, Mac OS X laboratories and central servers. You will be taught by lecturers who have close links with the industry and software engineering conferences and you will also have access to robotic equipment including Ardvinos, mobile robots and sailing robots.The foundation year will cover information technology tools, a review of the mathematical skills essential for the degree and programming concepts. Subsequent years will introduce you to web development, an individual project in which you will develop a piece of software and a range of elective subjects to help you specialise in areas of your choice.Employability skills are the core values of our degree. As part of your degree, you will be required to take part in a residential where you and other students will have work in teams to solve problems. This activity will encourage and improve your skills in communication, analysis, time management, independent and group-based working, organisation, implementation, research and technical skills. The University operates a Year in Employment Scheme (YES) and GO Wales. You have the option to take a year out between your second and third year to work in an organisation in the UK or overseas. YES is very rewarding and a worthwhile experience. Upon completion of this programme, you will stand out from the crowd in a competitive job market.
