Accredited by BCS, the Chartered Institute for Information Technology, this Computer Science with Game Design degree capitalises on the growing demand for user experience technology. Drawing on our expertise across two academic disciplines, it combines a solid foundation in traditional computer science with the creative aspects of successful games development. You’ll gain practical experience of developing systems using the latest technologies and techniques in our cutting-edge media and computing facilities and mixed reality environments. Learning how computer games are built and work, you’ll create – and play – games in a variety of different formats, from 2D and 3D platforms to board games and collectable card games. For the game design element of the degree, practical work - with game engines or physical game materials are integrated with opportunities to engage critically with theories of gaming culture, mechanics, narratives and aesthetics. Together these provide you with the insight needed to produce games that are both immersive and engaging. ‘Placement Year’ and 'International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time. You can find more information about these options on our website and if you have any questions, please get in touch. If you don’t have the required qualifications for this degree-level course or are looking to re-enter education after time away from study, then a Foundation Year Programme might be the right choice for you. Please see Computer Science (with Foundation Year) G40F.
