The MEd Clinical Education Programme is an interprofessional programme designed to transform healthcare professionals into exceptional education practitioners. This course offers a responsive, work related, and academically rigorous pathway for all healthcare practitioners involved in teaching and learning. Whether you are based in a clinical setting or a higher education institution, this programme will enhance your understanding of cutting–edge education and assessment pedagogies. You will develop various skills and deepen your understanding of core clinical education concepts while learning from expert academics and clinicians from the Faculty of Medicine and Health, and seasoned practitioners from NHS Trusts. In the first year of the programme, you can choose between campus-based or online delivery, while the second and third years are delivered entirely online. Starting in the 2024/25 academic year, the online PgCert programme will also be open to international applicants. This provides a unique opportunity to study alongside peers from around the world, enriching your learning experience with diverse perspectives in clinical education. Course highlightsChoice of delivery mode for Year 1 increasing flexibility and accessibility Eligibility to register as a fellow of Advance HE Interprofessional, opportunity to learn with and from other healthcare professionals with an interest in clinical education Development of pedagogical research skills Provides a career pathway for healthcare professional educators Interprofessional programme team The PG Certificate in Clinical Education (Year 1) is mapped to the Advance HE PSF Standards. The PG Certificate was reaccredited to descriptor 2 standards of the PSF standards 2023 and has accreditation till 2027. This enables students who successfully complete Year 1 to be eligible to apply for Fellowship of Advance HE and use the postnominals FHEA.

Entry requirements

A bachelor (hons) degree in a health-related subject with at least a 2:2 Entry on the appropriate professional register. Students who complete the MEd and progress onto the PGDip at Leeds may have completed a PG Cert in Clinical/Medical/Healthcare Professional Education elsewhere at another university For this we use the APL process. It is a course requirement that you be working in a clinical or educational setting with the opportunity to engage in some form of teaching, training, or mentoring. Direct entry to year 2 of the programme (PG Dip level) is available to international applicants who already have a PG Cert in Clinical, Medical or Healthcare Professional Education. Direct entry to year 3 of the programme (MEd level) is only possible if applicants hold a PG Diploma in Clinical, Medical or Healthcare Professional Education studied at the University of Leeds.
