The Climate and Ecological Transitions (CET) Hub at Loughborough University London is an interdisciplinary initiative focused on developing impactful research that navigates the complex political, economic, socio-cultural, and institutional factors shaping ecological transitions. The CET Hub fosters interdisciplinary, pluralistic, and applied dialogues.
We are looking for a PhD student to join us on a fully funded studentship and contribute to the research undertaken in any area related to the hub. The successful candidates primary and secondary supervisors will be members of faculty associated with this research hub. We welcome supervisory teams composed of faculty from more than one institute at Loughborough University London to encourage interdisciplinarity. Candidates are encouraged to suggest two potential supervisors on their applications.
We are particularly interested in applicants with an interest in pursuing their research in the following areas, but are open to others too:
Defining sustainability/ecological transitions across institutional and organisational contexts (Sharon Prendeville, Matt Vidal).
Communicating sustainability/ecological transitions issues/impacts and actions through sport.
Organisational responses to climate change, viability and assessment of ESG practices (Sharon Prendeville, Matt Vidal, Anna Grosman).
Developing interdisciplinary research methods and communications for climate action such as, but not exhaustively, alternatives to data-driven methods, storytelling, spoken word, performing arts, new types or uses of legacy- and social media (Ana Suzina).
Understanding and navigating the relation between nature and human society through theories such as the Anthropocene, metabolic rift, pluriversality, political ecology, ecofeminism, ontological design, etc (Sharon Prendeville, Matt Vidal, Ana Suzina).
Political economy of global sustainability/ ecological transitions in the Global North and/or the Global South (Sharon Prendeville, Matt Vidal).
Organisation and governance in regenerative economies such as through green growth, degrowth, post-growth, commons etc. (Sharon Prendeville, Matt Vidal, Anna Grosman).
Designerly, creative, and cultural sector responses to ecological breakdown (Sharon Prendeville)Government-led policies on climate change and their effect on organisations, including state-owned enterprises (Matt Vidal, Anna Grosman).
Energy consumption of and energy infrastructure for digital technologies in relation to sustainability transitions (Sharon Prendeville, Matt Vidal).
