Classical Literature and English - BA (Hons)

University of Leeds

It’s such a great location, I love the libraries and the night life. There’s always something to do and something to be a part of. To improve? I would want more lectures surrounding other aspects of my course. For example, creative writing only has a 2 hour seminar- I would really like more on the foundations of my degree- to talk more in depth about how to write to a university standard. That’s what I also struggle the most with.

The best things about the University of Leeds are the campus, living in Leeds, and the galleries. The worst things - rising cost of living, poor student housing.

The university is an excellent place to study there is a lot of great support available if you seek it out. The subjects are engaging and diverse and the university and the student's union offer and present many opportunities for jobs and new experiences. The only thing we would like more of is library space!

Leeds has a real culture to it that makes it an enjoyable university to study at. The student union is a great central point for the university and has lots of nice spaces to socialise. The libraries are easy to use and enjoyable places to study. Overall, the campus is really nice. However, the English department certainly feels like it has been neglected to some extent, when other buildings are much more modern, spacious, and generally nicer. I haven’t had any issues with support since I have been at Leeds, and all of the staff have been kind and welcoming towards me. I am currently doing a study abroad year in France. I think that the university have a wide range of great universities to study at and this is definitely a perk to studying at Leeds. I did find the process of applying unnecessarily stressful and felt that we were not guided as much as we should have been. Nonetheless, my time abroad has been enjoyable so far and I don’t regret my decision. Leeds is a great university with a lot to offer.

The union is so modern and has everything you'd want in it. The facilities in general are amazing - the gym is very modern and you get free membership as a halls of residence member. The campus is lovely due to all the green spaces and I personally love the mix of different buildings. Student life is great, there are so many opportunities and it's such a student-based area that you can really feel like part of a community. The student support is the only thing - there's definitely support out there but you have to actively seek it out and be really on it in order to access it effectively.
