The BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering course is intended as your first step towards becoming a Chartered Civil Engineer and a practitioner in the global community. Civil Engineers are responsible for the design, management and construction of major infrastructure projects such as transport projects, bridges, major buildings, water supply, sewage, harbours and sea defences.There is progressive development of a student’s ability to apply mathematics and analytical skills. At level one the focus is on the underlying principles, whereas at level three emphasis is placed on the solving of realistic design problems. At level three all students have to undertake an individual research project which must involve the review of current literature, data collection as well as critical analysis, discussion and conclusion.A graduate of the BEng. course will have qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment - the ability to exercise initiative, make decisions in complex situations (with often limited data) and preparation for lifelong learning.Sandwich (4 years)
