Aims: To enhance to an advanced level, students? understanding of the application of psychology to a placement setting; To develop to an advanced level, students? critical awareness of the role of psychology to ?real-life? problems; To develop students? understanding of the processes of using psychological knowledge in consultancy.

This module aims to provide students with a contemporary understanding of research methods in psychology, and practical experience with a range of approaches and practices spanning quantitative, qualitative and mixed designs. Building upon a core of theoretical knowledge towards more nuanced discussions on the practical application of research methods, this module aims to support students to gain the confidence and skills to effectively undertake and disseminate complex research in an effective and ethical manner.

• To enhance students’ knowledge of current theory and research across a variety of areas of child and adolescent psychology. • To develop students’ awareness and understanding of the particular methods used in different areas of research in child and adolescent psychology. • To develop students’ ability to critically appraise specific examples of published research and evaluate their methodological and theoretical limitations/implications. • To encourage students to relate research findings to current controversies in child and adolescent psychology and to consider the practical implications of this work to relevant real-life issues.

This module introduces central concepts in the study of the delinquency and psychopathy. By adopting an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on developmental psychology, forensic psychology, child and adolescent psychiatry and developmental and lifecourse criminology, students will develop an understanding of the complex relationship of influences on criminality and psychopathy across the lifecourse. Students will be provided with the tools to apply cutting-edge theory and research to practical settings, such as Youth Offending Services and Child and Adolescent Mental Health services.

The aim of this module is to give students the opportunity to develop a critical understanding of theories and research findings on the causes of developmental learning disorders at the behavioural, cognitive and genetic/brain level. Students will also gain a comprehensive understanding and knowledge regarding the assessment of developmental learning disorders and the implementation of theoretically motivated interventions. Students will be also given opportunities to critically reflect on the link between theory and real-life educational practice, making this module an excellent choice for those interested in a career in Educational Psychology.
