Our Business Management (Tourism) course will equip you with the skills, knowledge and experience to work in a wide variety of roles.The tourism sector covers everything from hospitality, hotels and visitor attractions to cruises and even space travel. But it is also having to adapt to challenges, including the need for digital innovation. In customer services, for instance, many businesses are now expected to have apps and virtual tours. We will look at some of these technological developments, along with other contemporary issues and future tourism trends.There will also be a field studies trip to apply your knowledge to a real tourism setting. The live briefs will include work with some of Staffordshire’s successful venues, such as the Emma Bridgewater pottery factory and the Wedgwood Museum.And to help give you the edge with employers, we offer double accreditation. Tourism has experienced continued expansion and diversification, to become one of the largest fastest-growing economic sectors in the world. As destinations invest in tourism, this has enabled socio-economic progress resulting in job creation and enterprise, export revenues and infrastructure development. But, has this impacted destinations positively or negatively? This module will allow you to look at the impact tourism has on destinations, leisure and culture across the globe.
This module will allow students to explore the various behaviour, expectation, behaviours and motivations of the tourist. The assessments are practical and creative in nature reflecting real world scenarios and conditions. A field studies visit is included within the module.
Placement Year
Authentic leadership brings together the concept of authenticity with positive psychology. You will learn how to make confident and effective leadership interventions and to be aware of the impact of these interventions in wider organisational settings. You will explore the theory and process of leadership and explore your own preferred style.
In the first part of the module, you will learn about research, research process and differences between quantitative and qualitative research. In the second part of the module, you will develop collaborative consultancy/management project with an organisation of your choice to identify an area of research beneficial to both you and the organisation. You will be involved in real-time problem solving, develop a set of recommendations based on your research findings and present those findings to the organisation.
Data is of great importance of modern organisations. This module will explore the role and importance of information and data within organisations, tools and techniques for analysing and interpreting the data for the purposes of decision making, and tools and techniques for data presentation and visualisation. In addition, the module will cover the concepts and principles in business statistics.
In this module, you will explore the dynamics of organisational change and how firms can leverage innovative business models to compete in a changing world. The business environment is dynamic in nature and business managers are faced with a multitude of challenges which require them to continually adapt and change in an effective manner. You will learn the skills and practical tools for planning and managing organisational transformations which could include turnarounds, cultural changes and strategic shifts.
