The programme has been designed to provide a rich and diverse experience with clear emphasis on professional development and the creation of a strong portfolio. The interaction of technical theoretical and creative aspects of photography is central in the delivery of the HND programme, with the focus of keeping up to date with the rapidly evolving photography industry. This course will offer students a place to develop and find direction for their work, through in-depth and hands-on exploration of current techniques and trends in photographic practice. The learning takes place in small groups, in our state-of-the-art studio and darkroom, and is further enriched by gallery visits. Students benefit from 1 to 1 support and a variety of teaching styles by inspirational lecturers with professional experience as photography practitioners. During the 2 years of this part-time course, you will complete six units, which will enable you to deepen your analytical thinking and successfully manage ambitious photography projects. You will have an abundance of opportunities to create innovative photographs and communicate thought-provoking concepts and establish yourself in your chosen area of photography. This is a programme for those who wish to develop a range of skills highly valued by employers, in order to enter the photographic profession.
Class format and activities
The course will be delivered in Chelsea Centre. Active learning will take place through workshop-based teaching in our state-of-the-art studio and darkroom. One -to-one support and constructive feedback will be provided to develop the skills and confidence to succeed independently. All course materials (project briefs, background notes, handouts, you tube videos, links to galleries etc.) will be available online and accessible via our Virtual Learning Environment, Moodle. Recordings of online presentations will be available via Microsoft Teams. The learning experience will be enriched with a range of study visits to museums and galleries.
What you can do next
Once you complete this course you could continue your studies and attend a BA Top Up, or a master’s course in University. Alternatively, you can start your own photography business, or seek employment as a photographer.
