This course is designed to prepare you for studying our BSc (Hons) Sports Business Management degree. You'll develop your study skills including academic writing and personal and professional development to start you off in the best possible way for your degree. You will learn more about business in a global and national context, and approaches to leading and managing in organisations. The foundation year also gives you a unique insight into the events, hospitality, sport and tourism industries and the role these sectors play in the health and wellbeing of society.

Career prospects

In the sports industry, the performance of the business behind the scenes is as important as the performance on the pitch. Revenues are generated from a broad range of activities from fan engagement and clothing to merchandise and sponsorship sales.

Health and fitness initiatives continue to be driven by government investment and commercial sponsorship. They have never been more important in ensuring that the health and wellbeing of our communities takes centre stage, with initiatives being driven increasingly by digital technology.

You could work at national agencies, governing bodies, health clubs and sports complexes, promoters, or media companies. There are also exciting careers in medicine, education, and research. Or you might choose to continue your studies with our MSc Sport Business, Management and Policy.

Some of our graduates have secured roles with major sports organisations like BBC Sport, England Netball, Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and British Swimming. Others in roles at football clubs such as Chelsea, Everton, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Beyond the sports sector, our graduates have found roles as:

Multi-Channel Social Media Manager, JD Sports

Digital Marketing Executive, Betfred

Research Coordinator, Street Games

CRM Operations Executive, Fanatics

Content Marketing Executive, Red Bull

Social Lead, DAZN

Department Manager, Decathlon

Sport Development Officer, Stoke-on-Trent Council
