Neuroscience with Psychology BSc at Keele investigates two fascinating disciplines to study the mind, brain and behaviour. Our Royal Society of Biology accredited programme* is designed to provide you with a foundation of knowledge across leading areas including neuroanatomy, neurophysiology and cognitive neuroscience. You will be introduced to the study of cells and molecular biology and human physiology to examine the brain, from how it senses and moves through the environment, to the mechanisms underlying learning and memory. You will become equipped with a grounding in the key concepts of neuroscience with transferable skills that will help to prepare you for a career of your choice.

Learn to understand people through theories and topics including biological, social and developmental psychology, enabling you to understand human behaviour. You will explore how electrical and chemical activity in the brain works to control these human functions at a cellular and molecular level. Discover how drugs can affect these finely tuned systems and go on to explore how we may be able to regenerate and repair the brain after damage.

Throughout the programme, you will develop a range of practical laboratory skills that can be applied to design and carry out experiments to understand more about the brain and nervous system. These involve research design, practical techniques and data analysis to put your learning into practice. Engage with our state-of-the-art David Attenborough and Central Science Laboratories where you can gain hands-on experience and learn how to use industry standard equipment. Your theoretical knowledge and practical skills combined will allow you apply your learning to a wide range of careers.

At Keele, you can embark on an exciting journey to enhance your career prospects through studying abroad and building your cultural awareness, or completing a work placement year for industry experience. You can tailor your degree programme to excel in areas of your choice and develop your personal and professional skills in preparation for employment.

Foundation Year

Our Foundation Year provides an excellent alternative route to Keele, providing a unique opportunity to better prepare for your chosen degree, and with guaranteed entry onto your undergraduate course once you successfully complete your Foundation Year.

Work Placement Year

During your studies, you will have the opportunity to opt for a Work Placement Year in the School of Life Sciences between Year 2 and Year 3, or to take a Work Placement Module.

This valuable character-building experience will help you to prepare for the workplace by spending time in industry, developing personal and professional skills. You will reflect on the knowledge you have gained throughout the programme and how this can be applied in the real-world. This experience will help to prepare you for employment and strengthen your prospects for life after university.

International year

In between years two and three of your studies you can choose to spend a year studying abroad. This exciting opportunity enable you to understand your field from different cultural perspectives and to establish international networks.
