Neuroscience and AI are deeply interconnected, forming a symbiotic relationship that drives innovation in both fields. AI draws inspiration from the structure and function of the human brain, leading to the development of artificial neural networks and deep learning algorithms that mimic cognitive processes.

Conversely, neuroscience benefits from AI's powerful data analysis capabilities, enabling researchers to process vast amounts of complex brain data, identify subtle patterns, and gain deeper insights into neural mechanisms.

On our Neuroscience with Artificial Intelligence BSc, you'll learn the key principles of neuroscience (e.g. neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neuropharmacology, neuropathology, and behaviour), and develop the highly sought after AI-related digital skills to help unlock previously hidden trends in the complex datasets found in the field of neuroscience.

In your first year, you'll build a strong foundation in nervous system anatomy and function, human physiology, and anatomy, alongside essential computer science topics like programming, computer systems, and algorithm analysis - the cornerstones of artificial intelligence.

Throughout the programme you'll benefit from practical and professional employability modules, including research training in experimental design, scientific programming, and career-focused sessions, equipping you with the skills and connections for a successful career.

In your second year, you'll deepen your understanding of neuroscience research techniques, analytical methods, and the functional anatomy of the human nervous system, enabling you to design research projects and explore neurophysiology and pathology. Simultaneously, you'll advance your knowledge of artificial intelligence and data science, focusing on techniques like machine learning and computational intelligence.

Foundation Year

Our Foundation Year provides an excellent alternative route to Keele, providing a unique opportunity to better prepare for your chosen degree, and with guaranteed entry onto your undergraduate course once you successfully complete your Foundation Year.

Work Placement Year

During your studies, you will have the opportunity to undertake a Work Placement Year between Year two and three, or to take a Work Placement Module. This valuable experience will help you to prepare for the workplace by spending time in industry, developing personal and professional skills. You will reflect on the knowledge you have gained throughout the programme and how this can be applied in the real-world. This experience will help to prepare you for employment and strengthen your prospects for life after university.

International Year

In between years two and three of your studies you can choose to spend a year studying abroad. This exciting opportunity enables you to understand your field from different cultural perspectives and to establish international networks. It also shows you have the personal attributes to embrace new experiences which can enhance your employability.

Your future career

Graduating with a degree in Neuroscience with Artificial Intelligence will equip you with the knowledge and skills applicable to a wide-range of neuroscience and biological sciences careers. You will build key skills in data analysis, critical thinking, problem-solving, research and laboratory techniques. These will prepare you for various roles in:

  • Academia - Looking at the cutting edge of new discoveries in neuroscience.
  • Clinical sciences - Interpreting medical data based on biological science techniques.
  • Biotechnology - Exploring its commercial application in industry.

With further training, you could go on to become a clinical psychologist, doctor, pharmacologist or big data analyst using tools and techniques from Artificial Intelligence.
