Graduates will be fully prepared and eligible to enter a career as a Healthcare Science Practitioner in cardiac physiology or respiratory and sleep science in a variety of healthcare settings including working in a hospital or in the community.

Why choose this course?

This accredited course combines and integrates both academic and work-based training in order to provide you with the practical skills and underpinning knowledge to fulfil the role as a Healthcare Science Practitioner in Respiratory and Sleep Physiology.

Knowledge of the normal structure and function of the human body will be developed so that you can appreciate the clinical abnormalities that occur as a result of disease. Youll learn how to use specialist diagnostic equipment, interpret clinical results and be able to understand how test results are used to plan subsequent treatment pathways. Clinical competence will be developed through integrated work-based placements (sourced by the University) and our on-site clinical skills laboratory.

Excellent professional practice will be paramount at all stages of work-based training and you will be encouraged to develop research skills which can be used to improve practice in your chosen specialism. Our aim is to develop Healthcare Science Practitioners that are focused on patient-centred care. Successful completion of the course will enable you to gain employment as a Respiratory and Sleep Physiologist and apply for registration with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS).
