Course overview

You study a broad curriculum in your first two years, developing knowledge in different aspects of computing science, and gaining skills in problem solving, program design and implementation.

In your third year, you move onto specialist topics in cyber security, developing skills and knowledge for your future career.

Your modules focus on the design and development of dependable software systems, and include:

  • cryptographies
  • software verification technology

Professional accreditation

Following a curriculum review, we are seeking British Computer Society (BCS) accreditation for our degrees so you can be assured that you will graduate with a degree that meets the standard set by the IT industry.

BCS is the Chartered Institute for IT. Studying a BCS-accredited degree provides the foundation for a chartered IT professional, engineer or scientist.

(excluding General Studies and Critical Thinking).We are committed to encouraging the adoption of A level Computing. Students applying with an A level in Computing will receive favourable consideration.GCSE Mathematics grade B or 6 required.

at Higher Grade. Mathematics required at National 5, minimum grade B (or grade 2 Standard Grade or Intermediate 2 equivalent) if not offered at Higher Grade. Combinations of Highers and Advanced Highers accepted. Where a candidate bypasses the assessment for National 5 qualifications, a minimum of grade C in the Higher in Mathematics is required.Scottish qualifications can be taken in more than one sitting.

A level 3 unit in mathematical studies essential. At least 45 level 3 credits at distinction in a science subject.

Standard Level Mathematics or Mathematical Studies required at grade 5 if not offered at Higher Level.

Including Ordinary Level Mathematics required at grade O2 if not offered at Higher Level.

Minimum grade B or 6 in at least five GCSEs required, including Mathematics.
