You will learn about the visual and audio communication of topical information.
We emphasise practical skills. This means you will spend a considerable amount of time learning the professional practice of key broadcast journalism skills including research, newsgathering, interviewing, presenting, self-shooting/recording and editing.
You will also learn core skills in media law, journalism ethics and data journalism.
Who is this course for?
Our course is suitable if you have a degree and are seeking to become a well-rounded broadcast journalist. You should have a keen existing interest in television, radio, social and digital news, and current affairs. You will also have a knowledge of sport, lifestyle and politics.
Teaching and assessment
You will learn practical and core journalism skills in groups of 15 and upwards through lectures, workshops and broadcast-simulated news days.
Some modules are held in lecture theatres but most involve small-group workshops allowing you to develop journalistic skills and knowledge.
Your coursework will be journalistic assignments produced to a deadline, as you would work in a real news organisation.
You will be assessed by coursework, practical work in groups and individually, a written timed test, essays and a final project.
The course is delivered by a wide range of professionals in their field who have worked across radio and television.

Applicants should hold an upper second class honours degree, or the equivalent from an international institution. Consideration may also be given to mature applicants with substantial work experience in radio and/or television journalism. Students whose first language is not English are advised to apply for the International Journalism MA, which is designed specifically for students from outside the UK.
