The equine industry generates huge amounts of revenue for some of the world’s major economies and is the second largest economy in the rural sector. The industry is continually looking for bright, skilled graduates. The BSc (Hons) Bloodstock and Equine Performance Management programme has been designed with the structure of the racing and sport horse elements of the equine industry at the centre. The equine industry in the UK is diverse and fragmented and made up of small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs). These SMEs require graduates with a good knowledge of equine science and the equine industry with some core business skills. The industry itself covers a range of different sectors including horse racing and bloodstock production, the sport horse sector including the Olympic disciplines. No wonder our graduates have gone on to work at prestigious companies such as Plusvital Equinome, Haygain, Tattersalls and The National Trainers Federation. In the third year, you will apply and develop your expertise and complete a 12-month period in the workplace. Not only could you find yourself working for prestigious companies in the UK or across the world, you will develop confidence and industry contacts for when you graduate. The research project is an integral part of the course and provides essential experience in both design and execution of a piece of research. You can choose to focus on either science or business and you could also see your research project featured in one of the many academic journals that regularly publish our students' work.
