One of my favourite aspects of Newcastle University is the student life. There is always something happening on campus, making it easy to feel involved and part of a strong community. The variety of societies and clubs on offer is impressive, and what stands out most is how collaborative they are. For example, I attended an art workshop jointly run by Blank Canvas and Art Society, which created a welcoming and creative environment. People across societies are friendly and inclusive, making it easy to meet new people. Pop up shops and events regularly appear on campus, adding to its lively atmosphere, and the nightlife is a major highlight. Socials throughout the week, especially Wednesday socials and Thursday nights at Tup Tup Palace, are always memorable. Student led events such as the Biomedical Science winter and spring balls further show the effort students put into building an enjoyable university experience. Overall, the diversity of societies and social opportunities makes Newcastle an exciting place to study. Another reason I enjoy Newcastle University is the quality of its facilities. As an avid gym member, I really appreciate the university gym, which is well equipped and easily accessible. In terms of studying, there are plenty of excellent spaces across campus. The Philip Robinson Library is particularly useful, especially during exam season, as it offers both quiet and collaborative zones. The medical building library is also convenient for studying in between closely scheduled lectures. The Students’ Union provides an additional comfortable space to work or relax, helping to balance academic and social life. Student support at Newcastle University is highly accessible and well organised. Careers advice is easy to arrange through the careers service, with one to one online meetings available for support with part time jobs, placements and future planning. The wellbeing team is extremely approachable and supportive, offering help with a wide range of concerns. During exam periods, the university provides frequent updates and clear guidance, including support such as rest breaks or extra time when needed. The university’s location is another major strength. Campus is only a short walk from the city centre, making shops, cafés and other amenities very easy to access. Newcastle University combines the feel of a campus university with the convenience of city life, allowing students to move easily between lectures and social activities. The coast is also close and inexpensive to reach by Metro, making it ideal for weekend trips. Excellent transport links, including trains to cities such as Edinburgh, Durham and York, as well as a nearby airport, are particularly beneficial for students who live further away or internationally. Sustainability is clearly prioritised across the university. Recycling is strongly encouraged, which is especially important in courses such as biomedical science where a large amount of plastic is used in laboratories. Clearly labelled, colour coded recycling bins across campus reflect the university’s commitment to environmental responsibility. While my experience has been very positive overall, there are still areas for improvement. More part time job opportunities on campus would benefit students balancing work and study. Although many lecturers are engaging and supportive, making teaching more consistently interactive would further enhance the learning experience. Increasing opportunities for student voice through surveys and active course representatives could also help ensure feedback leads to meaningful change. Overall, Newcastle University offers a well rounded student experience, with an excellent student support team and a fantastic location.

The location in the city centre is ideal, and the surrounding areas for accommodation in second and third years are useful. Many clubs and societies to get involved with. Personally, doing a Science degree, the opportunities to gain research experience especially in my third year completing a research project in an established lab is invaluable experience.

The campus is well equipped for uni life and living away from home.Within walking distance i can get to my lectures easily and do my weekly shop and also spend time with my friends away from the books without having to worry especially in the horrible winter weather!! The support here is great as not only does the student uni provide opportunities but within my cohort and societies I can be provided with additional help and support. The campus is beautiful in any season and gives a huge motivation to not just be stuck in my room and adventure out into the campus and into the city to either do some extra work in the library or simply get some fresh air.

Being taught by people who really know about their subject and you can tell they are enthusiastic about their subject. The people I’ve met are really lovely and friendly so it’s very welcoming atmosphere on campus.

It's a very accessible university - everything is close-by and everything you need is on or near campus the staff are all very friendly as well and open to helping
