Biomedical Science with Placement Year

University of Warwick

I love the campus at Warwick, it's so nice to see so many familiar faces on a daily basis and the facilities, especially the School of Life Sciences where I study and the Sports Centre where I dance. There is a big focus on sport, and other extra-curricular societies, which is so important to balance out studying there. I have been a proud member and teacher for the Classical and Modern Dance Society in my first 2 years and cannot wait to return next year after my placement abroad! I have really benefitted from the opportunities to work alongside my studies too, working behind the bar at the Students' Union pub, the Dirty Duck, and being a Course Rep and Ambassador for my department. The Warwick campus is located not too far from Leamington Spa, a lovely student town, with big parks, water sports, cafes, bars, restaurants, public libraries, and which is close to Stratford-Upon-Avon full of history. We are also not too far from Birmingham for nights out, shopping, Christmas markets, etc. and close to Birmingham Airport which I have used for CMD society trips to Barcelona and Prague! Leamington is around 30/ 40 mins on the bus, I used stagecoach, for which the yearly subscription is very expensive and the service is deteriorating in terms of reliability, busyness, frequency, etc. which I am a bit apprehensive to rely on again in my final year.

University of Warwick is a great place to study for people who seek calm and countryside vibe. People here are very friendly and helpful especially the workers and the committee of society such as residential community. In terms of safety, I can said that Warwick very prioritise the student's safety as I can see many of the members of safety community doing the best at their job especially the team that in charge for fire alarm. In term of bad experience, there's no bad experience and overall so far I can said that Warwick is a safe place to study.

I'm living in university accommodation. Every time we have a problem with the facilities and support, Warwick University teams are always there for us. For example, I reported a problem with my radiator, and they quickly provided me with a portable heater to keep me warm while they fixed it. Not only that, but Warwick teams provide me with a lot of support, from academic support to career support. Studying here is the best decision I have made, as the feedback from my previous assignments was really specific, and I know which areas I need to work on to improve my mark.

I love my university for the peace ambiance that it gives especially around my campus and accommodation areas. However, I don't prefer having too much activity happening at once, for instance, at the Student Union. Maybe, that's just me and my preferences of wanting to have a more quiet and secluded lifestyle.

The Warwick community is very supportive and one must aim to utilise all the help and support. My worst aspects would be transitioning to staying in the Uk without family around but I have made good friends.
