Biomedical Engineering combines biomedicine, electronics and digital health technologies to solve the healthcare challenges of the future. As a Biomedical Engineering student you’ll learn the underlying principles of medical technologies and gain the ability to design, develop and deliver new products.On this innovative course, the first year will provide you with a thorough grounding in electronics and programming along with an introduction to life sciences. You will then deepen your skills and knowledge in biomedical engineering in one of four inspiring specialisms: Artificial Intelligence, Digital Health, Electronic Systems or Mechatronics for Health.The second year will allow you to explore more modules in your chosen pathway, before you complete an individual project in the third year. In the third year you will also be able to choose modules from our Medical Engineering course, giving you the ability to build a unique set of Biomedical Engineering skills. The University of Southampton has a long tradition of interdisciplinary research and teaching at the interface between engineering and healthcare. The calibre of our teaching and facilities also reflect our experience in this area, and you will have access to our extensive facilities including a high-resolution 3D imaging centre, and the Centre for Hybrid Biodevices. You'll graduate equipped with the skills and knowledge to join the flourishing global health technology sector.
