University rating
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
I absolutely love it here. The tutors are amazingly knowledgeable, whilst being friendly, approachable and very supportive at all times.
I feel the facilities are great, and particularly love the fact that I can come to enjoy the peace of the library on a Sunday afternoon.
All in all, a really lovely experience.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
I really like them. Especially the refectory, where the food is always to a really high standard, and reasonably priced. The social sciences library is very well stocked, and I have spent many an hour getting distracted from my assignment by reading books which look interesting!
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Very good indeed. I know that I can ask for a meeting with my personal tutor at any point and am ensured that I am never wasting their time, with my (silly?) questions etc.
As a counsellor myself I haven't used their counselling services, however it was highlighted to me when a had a seriously ill family member which began to affect my studies. Again, Helpzones/ Student Services were really supportive and helpful.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
I am more than happy with the SU and what they have to offer, they also seem keen to engage students when key events happen - for example, the recent general election.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
I find it a very useful location due to the proximity of the town centre, where I work. It has convenience stores very close by and a couple of places to grab lunch on the same street. However, the food is superb on campus so I tend to eat here when I can/ need to.
A short, five minute, walk into town and there is everything available in terms of amenities.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
As I work and have school age children, I don't tend to get involved in the societies/ sports side of things. However, my understanding (from fellow students) is that there is a multitude of offerings in that regard!
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
I like the fact that I can undertake a Master's whilst only having to attend lectures one day a week. This allows me to work, spend time with children etc. The online library access is incredible too, and this also allows for that to happen.
The only thing I can think of, for a worst thing, is that one of the modules last semester was taught in a room which got incredibly stuffy - not sure how that would be addressed to be honest!
How many contact hours per week do you have?
6
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
With the Your Future Plan department there are lots of events, workshops, refresher courses etc and days which can help to build confidence in terms of employability. I have always found these to be incredibly useful, and enjoyable.
