CORE MODULES

ACADEMIC ENGLISH SKILLS

This module provides you with thorough English language training and related academic skills which enable you to achieve your academic potential at university. During this module, you will develop skills in academic writing and reading strategies, delivering presentations, and listening to recordings of lectures.

This module will help you develop confidence to use written and spoken language in academic contexts. You will learn these skills alongside a range of subject specific modules.

SUBJECT-SPECIFIC MODULES

CELL BIOLOGY

You will gain a comprehensive understanding in the molecular basis of life from the atomic scale up to cells and tissues.

MICROBIOLOGY

You will develop a basic knowledge of microbial life and the techniques used to study microorganisms. You will also learn about the interactions between microbes and other life forms.

FUNDAMENTALS OF GENETICS

You will receive an introduction to genetics with emphasis on cellular and molecular mechanisms.

INTRODUCTION TO NEUROSCIENCE

This module will give you an introduction to the central nervous system and the biology of the mind. You will investigate the development, evolution and structure of neurons and the process of synaptic transmission.

FUNDAMENTALS OF PHARMACOLOGY

You will be introduced to the field of pharmacology including the principles of how drugs can produce both beneficial and harmful effects on the human body.

PHYSIOLOGY AND ANATOMY

You will learn about different cell types, human tissues, major organs, body systems and disease.

LABS 1 AND LABS 2

Labs 1 and Labs 2 will provide you with practical laboratory sessions to deepen your understanding of your Core Modules.
