The aim of the module is to give students the opportunity to demonstrate the independent research skills necessary to define conduct and report a substantial piece of empirical research in accounting and finance. This module will provide students with the opportunity to develop a deep knowledge of their chosen area of study and demonstrate self-motivation and effective time management skills which will be necessary to successfully complete a work of this magnitude over a sustained period.
The module aims to familiarise the students with the use of quantitative techniques pertinent to the understanding of modern finance theories and essential in solving finance problems. Its main emphasis is on the applications of various quantitative techniques. Students will have opportunities to develop a good understanding of methods and applications of quantitative techniques in finance. They should be able to use these techniques in analysing and solving problems encountered by corporate financial managers & financial decision makers and present, interpret, discuss the results in preparing appropriate report. Students are also expected to become proficient in the use of Excel in solving finance problems.
The module commercial banking aims to develop students? knowledge and understanding of the key theoretical and practical issues in retail banking. The module provides students with a thorough grounding in a range of commonly employed numerical tools, strategies and techniques in the day-to-day management of banks. By the end of the module the student will be knowledgeable on the main activities of retail banks, capable of recognizing common problems and applying the appropriate qualitative and quantitative tools to solve them.
This module aims to provide a critical understanding of the key theoretical principles for effective financial decision making in a corporate enterprise and develop a practical understanding of the use of financial theory in business and financial markets. The module attempts to relate theory to current corporate business practice and requires students to be able to confidently use, interpret and manipulate financial formulas and numerical data. It provides a basis for further study of more specialist modules in finance.
The aim of the module is to provide students with opportunities to develop professional skills which are essential for success in both study and work, including: oral communication skills; presentation skills; team-working skills; commercial awareness; and awareness of global and cultural issues in business. Students will analyse a series of business issues and case studies; through these scenarios and case studies students will have the opportunity to identify and define problems, analyse financial and non-financial data, develop their commercial awareness, exercise appropriate professional and ethical judgement and develop reasoned conclusions and recommendations. Students will also be exposed to a number of different experiences designed to provide opportunities for students to practise and develop their skills.
The module provides an understanding of the operation, challenges and issues facing the world's international financial institutions and markets, with a focus on development, reform and policy. The course assumes an international perspective with numerous cross-country comparisons in terms of regulation, institutions and policies.
Quantitative Methods is a Masters level module intended to provide students with a thorough grounding in the effective use of mathematical and statistical techniques in business and finance. The module provides students with a thorough grounding in a wide range of numerical tools and techniques from basic descriptive statistics, through regression to time series methods. The module places a strong emphasis on the interpretation and communication of quantitative information and analysis as a basis for other applied and research based modules.
