If you have the potential to study at degree level, but you dont meet the entry requirements, a foundation year can help bridge the gap – laying the groundwork for entry into Year 1. The units youll study are designed to build your confidence and bring you up to speed for the rest of your chosen degree. As well as the Academic Practice units, which help develop your study skills for learning at degree-level, youll also study a selection of humanities units. Once you have successfully passed your foundation year you will progress directly onto Year 1 of your linked honours degree.
Career prospects
Successful completion of the foundation year guarantees automatic progression into Year 1 of your chosen linked degree.
Graduates of BA (Hons) History may be employed in a variety of careers and sectors. As well as the history and heritage sectors with roles in museums, galleries, heritage sites/historic houses, heritage organisations and charities, record offices, libraries and archives, to name a few our graduates are employed in sectors as diverse as education, marketing, law, banking, local and national government, and the civil service.
Some graduates may also be interested in pursuing Postgraduate study, with Manchester Met offering MAs in History and Public History and Heritage, or you may want to go into teaching and study a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education).
